NC Membrane vs PVDF Membrane: Choosing the Right Transfer Membrane for Western Blotting

SS6-121R Rapid Biological Indicator for Steam Sterilization

Tailin’s SS6-121R rapid self-contained biological indicator provides reliable steam sterilization monitoring results within 3 hours. Paired with the HTY-RBIR100 reader, it streamlines CSSD quality control with automated interpretation and full data traceability.

In modern Central Sterile Services Departments and healthcare quality management systems, sterilization monitoring is more than a routine checkpoint. It is a critical safeguard for patient safety, infection prevention, and medical quality.

As healthcare institutions continue to face growing pressure for faster instrument turnaround, higher process reliability, and stronger traceability, traditional biological monitoring workflows can present several challenges. Long waiting times, manual recordkeeping, delayed release decisions, and limited data traceability may increase the operational burden on staff and create potential gaps in quality control.

To help address these challenges, Tailin has developed the SS6-121R Rapid Self-contained Biological Indicator for Steam Sterilization, designed to provide reliable sterilization monitoring results within 3 hours.

Standards & Compliance:

  • ISO 11138-1:2017 — Biological indicators — Part 1: General requirements
  • ISO 11138-3:2017 — Part 3: Biological indicators for moist heat sterilization processes
  • ISO 11138-8:2021 — Part 8: Method for validation of a reduced incubation time (RIT)

A More Efficient Approach to Biological Monitoring

The SS6-121R is designed for pressure steam sterilization monitoring and combines a self-contained structure with a rapid recovery growth medium. Compared with conventional monitoring methods, it helps shorten the time required for result interpretation, supporting faster decision-making and more efficient instrument turnover.

Its self-contained design also helps reduce operational complexity and lowers the risk of handling-related errors. With a patented structure that effectively reduces medium evaporation, the SS6-121R supports stable incubation conditions and consistent monitoring performance.

Key product advantages include:

  • 3-hour result interpretation
  • Rapid microbial recovery growth
  • Self-contained patented structure
  • Reduced medium evaporation(10%)
  • Improved workflow efficiency for sterilization monitoring(80%)

How the Fluorescence Detection Works

The SS6-121R contains Geobacillus stearothermophilus ATCC 7953, a standard biological indicator organism widely used for steam sterilization monitoring, together with a rapid recovery growth medium.

If sterilization fails, surviving spores begin to germinate and produce α-glucosidase. This enzyme reacts with the fluorescent substrate in the culture medium, generating a fluorescent signal that can be detected at a 366 nm ultraviolet wavelength.

When used together with the HTY-RBIR100 Rapid BI Reader, the system identifies the fluorescence signal and provides a positive result within 3 hours, enabling faster response and improved monitoring efficiency.

HTY-RBIR100 Rapid BI ReaderIntelligent Reading and Traceability

A rapid biological indicator is most valuable when paired with a Reader that can support accurate interpretation, automated workflow, and reliable data management.

The HTY-RBIR100 integrates high-precision quantitative analysis technology based on OpenCV. This helps reduce interference from background fluorescence and ambient light, supporting stable and consistent result interpretation.

The HTY-RBIR100 is designed to build a closed-loop workflow covering:

Detection → Interpretation → Alarm → Traceability

Its key functions include automated fluorescence detection, pH color comparison, abnormal positive result alerts, and LIS system connectivity. This enables healthcare teams to reduce manual judgment, improve documentation efficiency, and strengthen traceability across sterilization monitoring processes.

The HTY-RBIR100 also supports multi-sample incubation and integrated result management, helping facilities improve testing capacity while reducing unnecessary manual handling.
